Susan Gobreski
Executive Director, Education Voters Institute

Susan Gobreski is the Executive Director of Education Voters Institute in Pennsylvania, formed in 2007 to advance public education policy through civic engagement and participation, as well as increase accountability to education issues. She has worked in issue advocacy and issue based electoral engagement for 20 years, running strategic policy and election campaigns, doing grassroots organizing and providing leadership development and training for individuals and organizations. She is an EPLC Fellow (class of 2009), part of the national Institute for Educational Leadership (IEL) program, at the Education Policy and Leadership Center (EPLC) in Pennsylvania.  

She has worked for several national issue organizations, including the League of Conservation Voters (2001-06) where she served as PA State Director and National Campaign Director and has worked on women's health issues and spent 11 years at Clean Water Action, where she did field organizing and community organizing around refinery issues in low income communities. She has also advised political campaigns. Ms. Gobreski served for 2 years as a member of the faculty of the Center for Progressive Leadership, developing and conducting leadership training and coaching for the State Political Leaders Fellowship.  She currently serves on the board of the PA Women's Campaign Fund (PWCF), a bi-partisan effort to help elect women in PA and she provides training and strategic planning support for other organizations, including national and state based environmental groups. She has served on the boards of PA LCV, the Women's Health and Environmental Network (WHEN) and numerous advisory and steering committees.  

She has served on the Board of Trustees of Independence Charter School, a Philadelphia public charter school, for 5 years (2002-2007); serving as Treasurer, VP and President. She was an appointee to the PA Dept of Education Title 1 Statewide Advisory Committee (SPAC) as Vice Chair (2003-2004). Ms. Gobreski holds a BA in Political Science from Temple University and a fund raising certification from the Non-Profit Center at LaSalle University. She has three children in public school and her husband is a teacher in the Philadelphia public school system.
